Healthy-aging and wellness medicine also includes use of proper supplementation to maintain a healthy nervous, immune and digestive system, improve vitality and support tissues of the body as they age. Also view Integrative / Functional medicine as there is much overlap.

Here’s How it Works

Your biological age is not the same as your chronological age. In unhealthy people, the biological age is often measured to be much higher than their real age. On the other hand, healthy people are often seen as much younger that they actually are. Anti-aging medicine focuses on slowing down the biological aging process by treating and preventing age-related disease on the molecular and cellular level.

Herbal & Nutritional Supplements

Supportive programs for nutrients deficient in your body for  your specific needs as you age.  Maintaining proper levels of certain nutrients, vitamins and minerals in your body can help reduce risk for certain degenerative states.  For example, severe deficiency in certain vitamins (such as certain B vitamin and Vitamin D) can increase risk of cognitive decline as one ages.   Some supplements are tailored to help support the nervous system,  cellular health and natural detoxification pathways which can be important as you age.

Tailored Nutrition and Gut Health

Our digestive system houses about 70% of the immunity in our bodies and is of utmost importance when it comes to a healthy balance of our immune systems. A healthy gut is important for not only a strong immune system, but also mood, heart and brain health, and better sleep. By improving out nutrition, supporting our microbiomes (the healthy bacteria that reside in our guts and support a healthy body and immune system) and working to take away the imbalance of certain unwanted organisms that might be over-populated in your digestive tract, we have a chance to improve our gut health. It is possible that helping the health of our gut may help us age more healthfully.

Diet, Lifestyle and Sleep

Optimizing diet, lifestyle and sleep can help support healthier brain function, vitality and general wellness for older adults.  Certain medications, like sleeping pills, can cause cognitive problems in older adults.  Finding more natural and lifestyle solutions can be a better option for uplifted mood and wellbeing.

NAD+ Therapy (injection and oral, referrals for IV)

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a coenzyme present in most cells in the body and supports the production of energy in cells, working as a fuel.  NAD+ is required for cells to metabolize carbohydrates, fats and amino acids. NAD+  works similarly to a neurotransmitter helping with chemical messaging in the brain.   It plays an important  role in healthy gene expression linked to aging, and is important for brain health. As we age, our NAD+ levels decline significantly.  NAD+ levels can be improved naturally with fasting, good sleep and exercise, but for many it is hard to replenish the levels.

NAD+ can have certain benefits:

  • DNA Repair – reduction in inflammation that can help with certain degenerative diseases

  • Neurotransmitter rebalancing and brain health, mood support

  • Improved production of ATP (a coenzyme) that is used for cellular storage.

  • Telomere Lengthening – helpful for anti-again

  • [Support for addiction – note that if you are currently needing to stop an addictive substance or medication, we recommend going to a 10-14 day NAD+ IV program.  This Center uses more daily support for maintenance].

Peptide Therapy

A relatively new area of alternative medical science used in a handful of functional medicine clinics around the country for support of anti-aging, immune system rebalance and reduction of inflammation. Peptides are smaller proteins made of short sequences of amino acids that the body uses for hormonal and cell signaling.  Peptide therapies can give the body assistance with certain functions similar to naturally occurring peptides. Peptides can be helpful with weakened immune systems, inflammatory illnesses of the gut, skin and musculoskeletal systems, and can sometimes help weight management.
